AEOTrack Explained in Minutes: Core Concepts

Core Concepts of AI Search

To successfully optimize your website for AI search engines, it is critical to understand the primary concepts and metrics used on the platform:

1. AEO vs. GEO

  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): The process of optimizing your brand's content so it is selected and mentioned directly by AI agents (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok) in their text outputs.
  • GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): The practice of structuring your website's data (using schema markup, clear heading trees, and deep content) so that the same AI engines include your brand when they write a broader overview of a topic, rather than answering one specific question. AEOTrack tracks GEO as topic phrases across the same engines; Google's AI Overviews are not measured.

2. Key Platform Metrics

AEOTrack aggregates raw AI responses into three high-level visibility indicators:

  • Visibility Score — A single number representing the share of your tracked search prompts where your brand appeared in the generated answer.
  • GEO Score — Your rank and frequency of appearing in generative search overviews (represented alongside your AEO Score in your historical benchmarks).
  • Share of Voice (SOV) — A percentage representing how many times your brand is mentioned relative to all mentions of your competitors.

3. Understanding the Visibility Dashboard

When you open AEOTrack, the main Visibility Dashboard acts as your central command center:

  • Visibility Score Card — Summarizes your overall visibility across every prompt and engine you're tracking.
  • Engine Breakdown — Splits your score out by individual AI engine (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok) so you know where you're strong and where you need improvement.
  • Trend Over Time — A time-series chart showing how your visibility score moves, allowing you to correlate changes with site updates, competitor activity, or model version updates.
  • Top Prompts — Highlights the specific prompts driving the most mentions of your brand, as well as high-value prompts where your brand is currently absent.
  • Competitor Comparison — Displays side-by-side visibility percentages for your added competitors, so you know exactly who is winning the digital share of voice.
