Citation Tracker

What is the Citation Tracker?

The Citation Tracker allows you to discover and explore the specific URLs that AI search engines (like Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Gemini) cite as sources when answering your tracked prompts. This helps you understand which of your blog posts, landing pages, or external mentions are driving traffic back to your brand.

Key Metrics

At the top of the Citations dashboard, you will find your primary performance stats:

  • Brand Citation Rate — The percentage of total cited pages across all AI answers that actually belong to or name your brand.
  • Citation Opportunities — The number of pages and articles that currently cite a competitor but do not name you. These represent high-priority targets for content creation or outreach.
  • 30-Day Growth — The percentage change in your total citation count over the last 30 days.
  • Top Competitor — The competitor currently securing the highest share of citations across your tracked queries.

Filtering and Searching Citations

Use the filters to segment your citations:

  • Time Filter — View citations from all time, the last 30 days, or custom ranges.
  • Type Filter — Filter by document type (e.g., Blog, Docs, News, Other).
  • Engine Filter — See citations generated by specific answer engines.
  • Search Bar — Search your list by domain name, URL, or page title.

Understanding the Citations Table

The table details every referenced page:

  1. URL — Click to visit the cited web page.
  2. Brand Mentioned — Indicated with Yes or No to show if your company name is featured on the cited page.
  3. Competitors — Shows if any competitors are mentioned on that page (e.g., Otterly).
  4. Domain — The domain hosting the cited article (e.g., zapier.com, rankability.com).
  5. Domain Category — Categorizes the page layout (e.g., Blog or Other).
  6. Cited Count — The total number of times this specific URL has been referenced in answers.
