Engine chips: what green, grey and red mean

The chips

Under the visibility score is one chip per engine: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok (and Google AI Mode once enabled for your workspace).

• Green — the engine answered and the answer was scored.
• Grey — the engine did not contribute to this check. Either it returned an error, or its answer was cut off before it reached the point of naming anyone. A cut-off answer with no mention is inconclusive, so it is excluded rather than counted as a miss.
• Red — the engine has been failing consistently over the recent window.

A tooltip on each chip gives the reason and the model that answered.

"Dark weight"

When engines are missing, the score is computed over the ones that answered, and the dashboard shows what share of the engine weighting was dark. A score built from two engines is still a score, but it is a narrower one, and its range is wider to match.

What to do

Nothing — a dark engine is our problem, not yours, and engine health is monitored daily. If an engine stays grey for more than a week, the support team already has an alert for it; you can also mention it in a support message and we will confirm the cause.

Why the chip can say "read 3×, not named"

An engine can cite a page on your site as a source and still not name your brand in the answer. The chip reports both: it was read, and it was not named. That gap is common and is one of the first things the improvement plan works on.
